RioGrandeImagery's News

In a Nutshell:

A bunch of 5-minute cartoons of a pink jogger bunny who works in fast food, and a blue mechanic coyote (Less Wile E, more kid Anakin Skywalker) who basically do what they can out in the middle of nowhere. Also, both Red the gold mouse, Buster the dachshund and Kevin the lizard show up on occasion.

It has the art direction of late 90s Hanna-Barbera, with hints of both SpongeBob and Bear in the Big Blue House sprinkled in as well. The show will most likely be animated in 3D, for the sake of flexibility and fine-tuning.

Characters:

Remy "Zippy" McLeod is somewhat naive, but he's a good kid. He works at the Malt-n-Salt near the gas station, grilling hot dogs, serving malt shakes, and mopping the floors. Despite his parents being Scottish immigrants, he has an accent you would find in 30s Hollywood films.

Isabella "Gizmo" Estevez is a tinkerer, making gadgets out of household objects. She has two sides. During the day, she sings on the Malt-n-Salt stage (with Zippy joining in sometimes). But at night, she is the feared super-villain*, The Mechanical Fiend! (*Okay. So, she's not a real villain, and everybody knows that. But Zippy still manages to save the day... for the most part.) She speaks with a slight Hispanic accent.

Bonnie "Red" Lister is the third wheel of the group. She used to be a pop sensation, but her parents took all that didn't go to the record label. She stole some cash, ran away and ended up in Sandy Springs. She's the janitor around here. Everybody does recognize her, but keep quiet out of respect. Currently, she's writing books under the alias, 'Alan Smithee'.

Buster Keaton is the cool kid on the block. He's a Malt-n-Salt regular, who more-often-than-not, steals the show on stage. His color scheme is that of the default CGA palette. Zippy may (or may not) have a sliiiiight crush on him. (Yes, Zips is Bi and Buster is Trans but, we legally need to save that for the obligatory 2021 reboot. In the meantime, the occasional gay joke will do for now.)

Kevin Cheese is the true antagonist of the show. He's mad at Zippy and Gizmo because they immediately caught on to the fact that he tried to swindle money out of them both. In fact is anger is so blinding, he isn't even able to hurt a fly if he wanted to.

Where/When Are We?

Sandy Springs is the small railroad town where everything happens, just about 25 miles Southwest of San Angelo, give or take. Radius: 1.7 square miles / Population: 1.6k (1980 Census)

The show takes place around 1997, just about. Because everything is considerably cheaper around here (with 40ยข cheeseburgers, no less) and technology has evolved quicker than expected, portable DVD players aren't too un-common.

The Malt-n-Salt, despite it's name, is less Steak-n-Shake, and more Dairy Queen. This is where the H-B influence really shines. The cheapest option is the 1-2-3 Dollar Meal, consisting of 1 Whataburger Jr.-esqe cheeseburger, 1 small McDonalds-esqe fry, and 1 small 16 oz. cup with a choice between sodapop, maltshake, or soda-float, priced at $1.23. The most expensive option is the craving box, consisting of 10 burgers, 4 hot dogs and 6 large fries at $12.85 ($8.00 if you buy at least 1 marshmallow-banana cream sundae to go with it).

Episode Summaries:

"Wishy-Washy" - Zippy and Gizmo, having just settled into Sandy Springs, go looking for a job. They stumble near a car wash and they're immediately accepted. However, they weren't told what they would be paid, but when they find out, they search elsewhere for a job.

NOTE: This cartoon was released before the movie.

"Stuck for the Holidays"* - A small, once in a blue-moon snowstorm comes crashing in during the holidays. Zippy, Gizmo, Red and 2 more guys seek shelter in the garage. While the power does goes out, the solar battery still provides electricity, and these guys basically stick with each other and celebrate the holidays together.

"The Lake Sonora Brawl" - Zippy and Gizmo spend the weekend relaxing by the lake, while Red, Buster and Kevin get into a brawl, with Red and Buster trying to get Kevin away from Zippy and Gizmo. Red and Buster get to relax by the lake as their reward.

"Ride and Seek" - They hit the city and plan on going to the water park. The problem is Kevin is trying to prevent them from going, so it ends up being a goose chase until Kevin bumps into Buster and gets caught. They decide Buster should join in as well, and they race each other to the water slide.

"Game Over"* - The third "Steampunk Sailor" game has just come out. 3D graphics are all the rage, discrete surround sound is the talk of the town, and Gizmo just accidentally sent Buster into the game disc itself. (It happens.) So now She, Zippy and Red have to get into the game as well in order to save Buster.

"All That Glitters Is Trash" - Buster goes dumpster-diving, Gizmo notices in disgust. But before she can leave, she spots a rare, coveted, hornet bolt. Both end up with some "buried treasure" after a few hours. Zippy gets off work, spots some old baseball cards, and the cycle continues.

"Gut-Wrenched"* - Gizmo's been particularly under the weather lately, so it's up to Zippy to see how he can help. After a rough day of Gizmo bottling up her tears and Zippy piecing the puzzle together, Zippy ends up letting Gizmo cry on his shoulder. Red and Buster decide to make both of them a marshmallow-banana cream bowl, all 4 of them enjoy it and Gizmo ends up much better afterwards.

Note 1: While neither Zippy, nor Gizmo, cry too often, Zippy is much more likely to cry than Gizmo.

Note 2: There is not a single line of dialogue in this short, besides Zippy reading Gizmo's letter, with Gizmo's voice synchronized with his as well.

The Lost Film - Gizmo stumbles across a film previously lost. Kevin wants to destroy it, and so Gizmo gets to the library to scan the film and archive it.

Sandy Springs, 1990.

We start with a shot of a ball, a foot kicks it. A small pink bunny kicks it out of frame, and runs to chase it. The ball rolls to a blue coyote, who inspects it. As the bunny is chasing it, he trips, but the coyote catches him before he could fall. He thanks the coyote and introduces himself as Remy ("...But everyone calls me Zippy."), with the coyote introducing herself as Isabella ("...or Gizmo if ya' want."). Zippy invites Gizmo to play with him, she accepts, and they end up as good friends. During winter break however, Gizmo's family moves out. She and Zippy thank each other for being there, and say their goodbyes

.

Of course, goodbye isn't always forever, it's just that you tend to reunite with an old friend when you least expect it.

Title Animation: Zippy and Gizmo

It's now May 1997.

Zippy is looking for a new house in Sandy Springs to (perhaps) one day raise a small family in. But little does he know, he's about to meet an old friend again. Gizmo is also looking for a house in this area, except she wants a garage big enough for her "operations". They sing the opening song of the movie, they spot the perfect house, and bump into each other, thus ending the song. They both take in the moment. Zippy starts welling up with tears, and Gizmo finds a "feeling... or two" for him. Kevin, who is selling the house for a bigger, fancier house, decides "double the customers, double the money". Zippy and Gizmo both decide to split the funds, and move in together. There is, after all, enough for two. But Kevin wants all the money, so he threatens Zippy for the money, and Gizmo immediately teaches him a lesson. They both head inside for the night, as they've got a LOT to catch up on.

As they're moving everything in, Gizmo talks first, talking about that one stormy night, she stayed out past curfew, got into an accident, and now needs a prosthetic leg. Zippy apologizes, but Gizmo assures him it's not his fault, she was just stupid and reckless at that time. Afterwards, Zippy goes on about how he somehow ended up a good kid, despite his parents. But after that, Gizmo gets too soothed out by Zippy's voice. She tries to stay awake, but Zippy can tell it's not really working. Zippy then offers to make some dinner for tonight and now Gizmo's fully awake. And so, Zippy makes some summer sausage for dinner. Only, there's one problem... He put the drinks in the freezer by mistake. "Don't worry 'bout it, it happens to the best of us." says Gizmo, pouring herself a glass of milk.

Kevin's Car-wash Hideout, Sundown

Kevin is plotting his revenge. He has to stay at the car wash for the time being. He first thinks to strap them both to a single balloon, then have the balloon fly away, never to be seen again. But he decides to save on some helium, so he instead decides to frame them both for his wrong-doings on the radio. Cue the villain laugh, zooming out of the car wash.

After putting the drinks in the fridge where they belong, Zippy and Gizmo both decide it's time for bed. After all, they've gotta find a way to make some money tomorrow. They both offer each other sleep in the guestroom, and the other sleep in the big bedroom. But then a guestroom spider throws a wrench in those plans, so in a last minute decision, they decide to sleep in the living room together, with the TV on. In the middle of the night (1:25 AM, to be exact), Zippy is awoken by the noise coming from the garage. He then notices Gizmo is gone, so he goes to inspect the garage...

[suspenseful music]

E-gads! Gizmo is the famed small-time supervillain, The Mechanical Fiend! (Okay... so, she's not really a bad guy, and everybody knows this, but everyone goes along with it cus' it's fun.) Zippy, god bless his soul, is trying not to be a fanboy about it, but then Gizmo, currently in goblin mode, gives Zippy a kiss on the cheek, and takes him out for the night, singing her "villain" song. After the second song in the movie, Zippy's nose starts bleeding a bit, and he passes out for the night. Gizmo tends to his nose and puts him to bed (in the big bedroom), spots the spider on the dresser, whacks it, and heads back to the garage.

The Next Day

Zippy is stepping out of the shower, with nothing but a towel to his name. After he gets himself dressed, cue the montage of both Zippy and Gizmo looking for a job, until finally, they stop for lunch at the "Malt-n-Salt", a place that Zippy was gonna recommend to Gizmo anyway. They both spot a help wanted sign. "Surely they won't hire the both of us, right?" suggests Zippy. Yeah, long story short, Gizmo's handles the ice cream and drinks and Zippy's the lead chef. The head-honcho himself, Henry Hoffman (a hedgehog, no less.) comes in and asks (nay, begs) for both Zippy and Gizmo to preform on the stage, because the other guy was fired (Don't ask.*) and he needs someone to do something, anything, on that god-foresaken stage.

*Fans may suggest he was doing crack in the bathroom, and yeah, Word of God will have pretty much confirmed it true.

In desperation, he offers extra pay to the both of them. He already had them at "preform on the stage", well... kinda.

Zippy kinda has a bit of stage freight at first, but Gizmo helps him ease in, and one song later, Zippy's a hit with the crowd. Cue the food-fight. A bit of hell breaks loose, because Kevin snuck in a flea. Everyone's throwing their food at the fleas but they persist. Henry tries to sacrifice Zippy and Gizmo to save himself, but he gets captured and taken by the fleas. Zippy gets everyone evacuated, Gizmo calls for pest control.

Only minor damages occurred, a few tiles needed to be replaced, but the place is otherwise left unscathed. Cue the quick shot of Zippy scrubbing Gizmo in the bath. (Gizmo's entire body, save for her face, is covered in suds.)

Later in the evening, Henry tries to fire them both for letting the fleas break loose in the first place, but everybody can see through that lie quicker than you can say "Jackalope". He runs off for the night, leaving Zippy and Gizmo to be praised for their efforts that day. Zippy's a bit overwhelmed, while Gizmo starts to see that, maybe being the good guy ain't so bad after all. Cue the whoopee cushion. Zippy finds it pretty quickly, but this leads him to discover Kevin's spot. Zippy goes to tell everyone about it, giving Kevin just enough time to clean up after himself. Once Zippy comes back for evidence, it's all gone. Gizmo suggests that Kevin may have hidden his tracks recently, and everyone decides that's their best answer. (This also helps to avoid an unnecessary liar-revealed subplot.)

Once they get home, Zippy's taking his shirt off, getting ready for bed. (For context, he sleeps in a white tank-top and blue/yellow boxers.) Gizmo says she's getting ready, but Zippy knows better. Still, he heads to bed, both he and Gizmo deciding to sleep in the big bed tonight. Gizmo sneaks out for the night, dawning her Mechanical Fiend costume. Song number 4. She's causing some harmless trouble, vandalizing the statue of Henry Sr. with her spray can, but as she's doing this, something catches her attention in the corner of her eye. She goes to investigate, intrigued by this mystery. That's when she saw it.

Kevin and Henry, sitting on a bench. C-O-N, S-P-I, R-I-N-, G. Gizmo busts out her VisionTape camera, and listens closely.

Kevin: "We're distracting those idiots so we can capture them by next week, and send em' to France in order to take over this dump."

Henry: "But what about the Malt-n-Salt?"

Kevin: "What ABOUT, the Malt-n-Salt? We'll blow that Popsicle stand and replace it with a used car lot."

Gizmo is horrified.

Henry: "I'm sorry, but I cannot let you do this."

Kevin: "Oh? Oh, so that's how it's gonna be, huh?

Henry: "I may have low standards, but you, [slight laugh] you take the cake right there."

Kevin: "Let's finish this."

Henry: "Ladies first."

Gizmo saves the evidence, and sneaks out of here. She still needs to be careful, because the two idiot crooks are duking it out by... playing Go-Fish. Gizmo realizes it's almost sunrise, she's now hit with a choice. Back to the house, or send the cartridge to the TV station? She stops by the station, urgently asking for it to be broadcast as breaking news. One single frame is all that's needed to convince them. She then spots an old flying scooter and decides it had better work. It does. Zippy's about to open the fridge, when Gizmo barges in telling Zippy to turn the TV to Channel 7. Zippy does this, seeing Gizmo in such a panic.

"Breaking News: Malt-N-Salt Owner Conspiring With Local Cash Launderee."

(Underneath: "In Other News, France Finally Allows Sale Of De-Odorant")

They both decide to convince the town to confront the both of them. As Kevin and Henry have come to stale-mate, they both realized too late that for the entire night, they were both sitting ducks.

They are now surrounded. They drop their cards. Kevin's the first to speak. "Look, it's Johnny Thunder!" [Insert Hanna-Barbera Riccochet Sound Here] It's a wooden puppet... that falls into the dumpster. "That's not Johnny Thunder, that's... where he went, After Them!" Cue the Scooby-Doo chase. The townsfolk are chasing the idiots down, with Zippy and Gizmo uncovering the plane that would send them to France. Henry was betrayed by Kevin as he got to the plane to just try to escape. Zippy and Gizmo surprise him with a "Bon Voyage" Party.

Kevin snaps. He activates a device, it goes beep, and he jumps out the plane... forgetting his parachute. And the beeping came from the microwave. The plane started to shake and rumble, and after Zippy started to panic with Gizmo calming him down... enough, Zippy goes to ask for emergency landing, leaving Gizmo to land the plane...

The plane is somewhat damaged, and the microwave fell out, but otherwise, it was another happy landing.

Kevin is free-falling after his fatal mistake, but he spots a slope that he can safely roll down into. He lives and proclaims victory... only to be crushed by a desert rock. (He lives, but forever driven to insanity.)

Zippy and Gizmo return to Sandy Springs with Henry arrested, Kevin found and captured, and the two of them hailed as heroes. Zippy asks if anyone needs First-Aid (Nobody does, surprisingly.), while Gizmo accepts her title as a hero. Someone comes drifting in with a rusty pickup truck, asking if the both of them need a lift. They accept. Cue the 5th (and last) song of the movie, as the three of them ride off into the sunset, back to the street they live on.

The end credits roll in a dark void, as most other films as well.

Just before the movie ends, Kevin is taken into custody, going on about how he won and how Sandy Springs will be his. (Not in his current mental state, especially.) The sheriff just chuckles and softly says "Sure, knock yourself out." Kevin is taken away as the film fades to black.

1993, it's almost Christmas, you're in your Chicago home when Phil knocks on your door. He's selling this video he and his buddies made called "VeggieTales". Out of curiosity, you buy the video off him, pop it into your unit, and after some off-screen bickering, the music starts...
